Date set for Prussian-Schleswig-Holstein nuptials

January 4, 1881

Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, elder son of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Prussia, will marry Princess Auguste Viktoria of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg on February 27, according to the New York Times.

The young prince, who is second in line to the German and Prussian thrones, will celebrate his 22nd birthday on January 27.  His fiance, Princess Auguste Viktoria Friederike Luise Feodore Jenny, turned 22 last October 22.  She is the eldest surviving child of Duke Friedrich of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenberg and Princess Adelheid of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.

Prince Wilhelm is the grandson of Emperor Wilhelm and Empress Auguste of Germany and Queen Victoria and the late Prince Albert of the United Kingdom.  Princess Auguste has her own family connections to Queen Victoria.  Her paternal uncle, Prince Christian, is married to Princess Helena, Queen Victoria's fifth child,  and her mother, Princess Adelheid, is Queen Victoria's niece, as her mother, Feodora, is the Queen's older half-sister.
