No foreign tours this year for Prince of Wales

January 6, 1926

The Prince of Wales will not be making a foreign tour this year, according to an announcement from Buckingham Palace.   The Prince will probably remain in Britain during the year.

This statement, as reported by the Associated Press, is understood by many as "confirmation of the reports" that the heir to the British throne will become engaged, and "possibly his marriage, to Princess Astrid of Sweden.

Instead of "making a tour abroad," the Prince will be "planning a busy year within the island kingdom."  He enjoys traveling, but is eager to "take a more prominent part in national affairs."  A full list of engagements is being arranged.  He will visit many British cities, and may also visit Ireland and Ulster.

The Prince of Wales will be spending spring in London, which "coincides" with the oft-discussed visit of Princess Astrid to Buckingham Palace.

His younger brothers, the Duke and York and Prince Henry will most likely "undertake foreign tours" in his place.
